Alta Forest Products, in partnership with Itochu Building Products, is the world's largest producer of wood fence boards. We specialize in Western Red Cedar and other premium species found in the Pacific and Inland Northwest forests. In addition to producing fence boards and pallet stock lumber, Alta's zero-wood-waste sawmills produce by-products such as wood chips, sawdust, mulch, and biofuel.
Headquartered in centrally located Chehalis, Washington, Alta operates in multiple Northwest rural communities, including Morton, WA; Winlock, WA; Shelton, WA; Amanda Park, WA; Lewiston, ID; Bonners Ferry, ID; and Naples, ID.
The Role:
The Controller is responsible for managing all financial and accounting functions of the organization. This includes internal and external financial reporting, accounts payable/receivable, managing cash position, planning and forecasting, managing the audit process, and all other aspects of financial management and analysis. In addition, the Controller will work with other company staff on a wide range of responsibilities. This position reports to the Director of Finance.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
  • Work with other senior managers to interpret financial statements and support ongoing operational needs.
  • Work closely with Management and Department Heads to align operational financial requirements with budget.
  • Prioritizes people management and makes meaningful time investments in selecting, developing, training, and managing the performance of the accounting team.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government entities.
  • Review all daily and monthly accounting entries.
  • Review all bank account and other reconciliations to comply with GAAP and SOX requirements.
  • Oversee the activities of the disbursement and accounts receivable departments.
  • Work with outside vendors; facilitate the annual audit and file tax reports in a timely manner, including government agencies, investors, etc.
  • Track processes to control manufacturing costs and maintain systems to monitor profitability.
  • Document and monitor business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree with an emphasis on accounting or finance is required.
  • Five years of progressive experience in accounting and people management is required.
  • Three to five years of successful work experience and a thorough knowledge of managerial-level practices with progressive responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating, staffing, reporting, and budgeting programs are required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with all employees across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of the financial aspects of business, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to be flexible and perform work under time pressure.
  • Ability to analyze fiscal data and recommend problem-solving strategies.
  • Considerable knowledge of records management procedures necessary to assemble and maintain required fiscal information.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and give directions while supervising staff.
  • Considerable knowledge of the theory and practice of organization, planning, management, and supervision and their practical application.
Work Environment
This role will operate in a professional office in both an open and public setting.
Position Type/Travel
This is a full-time position, and overtime work may be required as projects or job duties demand. Travel will also be required from time to time.

Position Type/Travel/Schedule
This position is exempt per FLSA guidelines and not eligible for overtime. A typical schedule requires the ability to work 40 hours a week. Flexibility to work evenings or weekends to accommodate critical goals and objectives may be necessary.
