Facilities Technician

Position summary: Monitor and repair, hotel and other Resort building systems and equipment by performing the following duties.

Role qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Work weekends & holidays on a flexible schedule.

Position responsibilities:

  • Clean, check and adjust a variety of electrical equipment such as motors and fans.
  • Connect wiring and replace bulbs.
  • Maintain a variety of mechanical items.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchase.
  • Obtain bids for material as needed.
  • Change air conditioners’ filters and clean fan coil as directed.
  • Maintains buildings, performing minor and routine carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Cleans work areas and disposes of trash and debris.
  • Performs tests and inspections of pool equipment and chemistry
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum two years for Tech I, or four years for Tech II, of various skilled trading such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must have or be able to obtain within the introductory period, the following: Valid Alaska Driver's license. Second Class Boiler Operators License or ability to acquire within 6 months. For Level II: CPO license.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.
  • Work Environment : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud. Employee must know what Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use in appropriate environments and must direct others to use same.
