Amazon Web Services Inc. is Hiring a Software Development Manager, AWS Developer Experience Near San Francisco, CA

  • 5 years of engineering team management experience
  • 7 years of engineering experience
  • 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
The AWS Developer Experience team is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager (SDM) to build and lead an exceptional, high-performing team in designing, developing, and launching a new developer-focused experience. This role will collaborate closely with UX design, product management, research, and the Developer Experience team to innovate and build an experience for the AWS developer community. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership skills, a growth-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
As the SDM, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of talented engineers, scoping and delivering large projects end-to-end, and driving initiatives from design to release. Your role will include gathering business and systems requirements from customers, writing technical specifications, managing project schedules, and coordinating implementation efforts across multiple teams. You'll also be expected to provide mentorship to engineers and offer leadership on complex technical issues, drawing from your deep and broad technical expertise.

Key job responsibilities
  • Work backwards from customer needs, collaborate with product and other leaders to drive alignment on the product direction and delivery
  • Lead an engineering team in the design, development, and deployment of highly scalable services
  • Mentor and develop engineers, help define and grow the technical culture, and attract and retain top engineering talent
  • Build mechanisms and processes for team efficiency, continuously inventing and simplifying.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
