Amazon is Hiring a Sr. Business Development Manager, AWS Open Data Near Arlington, VA

DESCRIPTION

Would you like to be part of a team that is accelerating human knowledge by democratizing access to data? AWS Open Data helps AWS customers including researchers, non-profits, governments, corporations, and others share and use data spanning a wide variety of fields and disciplines. Through the support of the Open Data Sponsorship Program, AWS customers have made more than 100 petabytes of high-value, cloud-optimized data available for public use.
Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated Business Development Manager to accelerate our customers’ usage of open life sciences data. This is an excellent opportunity to join AWS’s world-class technical team, working with some of the best and brightest engineers while developing your skills and furthering your career within one of the most innovative technology companies in the world today. As an Open Data Business Development Manager within AWS, you will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver on a strategy to build mind share and broad usage of AWS's utility computing web services such as Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), and Amazon Athena across our customer base. Our ideal teammate is passionate about data—data analysis, data formats, open science—and has the skills to build and maintain resilient systems of people and technology.
The ideal candidate will…
- Be fun to work with. Our company credo is “Work hard. Have fun. Make history”. As the right candidate, you will love what you do and be enthusiastic about your work. You will be dynamic and creative, and willing to take on any challenge.
- Enjoy working with customers and partners. You will have a passion for educating, training, designing, and building cloud computing systems for a diverse and challenging set of customers and partners working in governments, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and commercial companies.
- Have a strong understanding of large scale-cloud computing solutions. The ideal candidate will have past experience working with open data and researchers. You will enjoy keeping your existing technical skills and developing new ones, to the point that you can not only contribute to but lead deep discussions around systems and applications in the cloud.
Inclusive Team Culture
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have twelve employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.
Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded professional and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
Key job responsibilities
- Coordinate project design with internal teams (e.g., product, legal, sales, marketing) and external customers. Scope projects by creating clear, prioritized requirements documents based on customer needs, internal priorities, and competitive information.
- Identify high-value and high-impact datasets that are underutilized. Identify ways to use cloud computing to increase usage of these data sets.
- Identify repeatable use cases and create reusable content to encourage replication.
- Work with AWS service teams and technical teams to drive usage of open data on AWS.
- To succeed, the candidate needs to be motivated by putting customers first; they understand customer needs and don’t rest until they deliver it. They are detail-oriented with a strong technical or analytical background and excellent problem-solving skills. They learn from mistakes and love working with really smart people. They have a solid understanding of product/project management (e.g. business case, risk management, schedule management, and negotiation). They are comfortable briefing senior leadership, even when bearing bad news, and can communicate effectively with business and technical teams both verbally and in writing.
About the team
We are the AWS Open Data team, we believe that sharing data in the cloud lets data users spend more time on data analysis rather than data acquisition. We work with customers around the world to make more data more available to more people.
