JOB SUMMARY
Assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitor PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Reports to Surgery Manager and/or Director of Surgical Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
Professional Requirements:
Completes assignements in a timely manner; reports to unit manager throughout the workday for assignments.
Interacts professionally with patient and family.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to department managers, charge nurse, coworkers, physicians, and inventory manager.
Follows manufactures' recommendations for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies, equipment and instruments.
Assists other staff members as needed with transferring and transporting of patients.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
Demonstrates correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information and department policy and procedure.
Reports any malfunctional equipment to appropriate person.
Demonstrates a proactive attitude and seeks to correct situations before an accident or mistake is made.
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to department managers, charge nurse, coworkers, physicians and inventory manager.
Meets dress code standards for the department; adheres to policy for "Attire in the Operating Room", including appropriate PPE.
Adjusts hours to meet the surgery schedule.
Completes annual educational requirements and attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. Reads and returns all bi-monthly staff meeting minutes.
Demonstrates understanding of emergancy procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and disaster plans
Utilizes appropriate channel of communication or lines of authority to report patient care, personnel problems, etc.
Willing to assist with coverage at both campuses.
Education/Regulatory Requirements:
High School diploma / GED.
Basic CPR.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Additional languages preferred.
Skills:
Moderate to advanced computer and data entry skills.
Knowledge of medical terminology and instruments used by the department
Knowledgeable with cleaning and sterilization procedures and techniques
Basic understanding of various functions of the department
