American Association of Nurse Anesthetists is Hiring an Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs Near Washington, DC

We are seeking an Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs to help serve AANA membership within our Advocacy team! This position is considered Hybrid with an expectation to be in the D.C. office 1-2 times a week. The compensation for this role will be based on experience within the given range on the job posting. This role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus.

SUMMARY

Working under the guidance of the Director of Regulatory Affairs, the Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs is responsible for managing a portfolio of regulatory issue areas as they relate to CRNAs (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists) practice and the coverage and reimbursement/payment of anesthesia services. This work includes engaging federal agencies, analysis and development of comments on federal regulations and meeting with external stakeholders In addition, the Associate Director is responsible for member engagement related to federal regulatory activities.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Regulatory Advocacy and Communication

  • Analyze federal policy trends and NPRMs related to an assigned portfolio of agencies and issue areas that affect CRNA practice and reimbursement, and develop comment letters and member communications.
  • Attend federal agency and other stakeholder meetings available to the public, both virtually and in person.
  • Participate in and assist in the preparation of meetings with agency officials, organizations, health care trade associations and healthcare stakeholders.
  • Help in the development of relevant issue briefs and other resources to effect positive advocacy efforts and in communication to membership.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with identified external stakeholder groups
  • As needed, assist federal advocacy team with review of legislative proposals, comment letters to ensure alignment with regulatory/policy positions.
  • As needed present at AANA and other conference and workshops to present on AANAs regulatory and policy agenda.

Member Engagement

  • Assist with the handling of individual member casework to resolve issues associated with federal policy and regulations, CRNA reimbursement and any other casework issues.
  • Participate and assist in the preparation of CRNA member group meetings, such as SRS/PRS and the Anesthesia Reimbursement and Payment Policy Expert Advisory Panel.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience with federal regulatory health policy. Knowledge of federal payment programs including Medicare preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, especially Microsoft Word and Outlook, is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, writing, and communications skills. Must be detail oriented.
  • Capable of analyzing complex situations, identifying pertinent facts and issues.
  • Works both independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Can learn computer skills or programs necessary to achieve department objectives.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Bachelors degree in public policy, health policy, or a relevant discipline.
  • Masters Degree preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Performs primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to operate routine office equipment. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
