Job SummaryIn this role, the GIS Technician will support AET’s centralized geospatial program and help drive the Program’s strategic advancement. This includes supporting the growth of GIS initiatives around mapping and developing project data, the development and management of a companywide GIS project database and working with teams to examine and analyze information spatially for employees and clients. Success in this role will be demonstrated by providing client deliverables to support the project work executed by AET teams and in the development of AET's geospatial capabilities to meet strategic objectives.
Essential Functions
  • Development of multi-layered figures and maps for insertion into reports produced by AET employees as part of the preparation of deliverable documents and presentations.
  • Work with fellow AET employees to perform the examination and analysis of information given specific criteria, designing databases, and connecting GIS with other technologies.
  • Development and insertion of various types of data into GIS databases, such as text or spreadsheet files containing longitude/latitude coordinates, aerial and satellite imagery, tabular data, and digitizing paper maps or map images manually.
  • Participate in the development of AET standards for GIS product formatting and presentation.
  • Cooperating and interacting with AET clients, vendors, and partners when necessary.
  • Provide training for AET employees on GPS equipment and GIS field tools.
  • Work Closely with AET employees utilizing other systems and tools to integrate maps (e.g., CAD, FWD, GPR, IRI, drone imagery, etc.)
  • Maintain extensive knowledge in Environment Systems Research Institute (ESRI) solutions and successfully analyze data and present data visualizations.
  • Assist in the overall development, maintenance, and management of AET GIS databases.

  • Improve and maintain the quality of service and work product.
  • Coordinate with other AET offices, departments, and staff with the goal of increasing efficiency, productivity, and communication.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • High School Degree, of equivalent required.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Graphical Information Systems, computer science, geography, surveying, engineering, or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-1 year of experience required in Graphical Information Systems or related field.
Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This position also may require field work in outdoor conditions on construction sites with uneven ground and adverse weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands or finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds. The employee will occasionally push or pull equipment weighing up to 200 pounds. The employee is required to frequently work outside. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
