American Maritime Congress is Hiring a Digital Communications and Government Relations Intern Near Washington, DC

Position Overview

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven intern to join us this fall at the American Maritime Congress. Ideal candidates will possess a genuine passion for federal advocacy and a keen interest in understanding its pivotal role in shaping policy and legislation.

The Digital Communications and Government Relations Intern is a part-time, in-person position based in Washington, D.C., just minutes from Capitol Hill. To fully engage in this dynamic role, candidates must reside in the DMV area, enabling participation in face-to-face meetings, luncheons, conferences, and receptions with Members of Congress, their staff, and other lobbying professionals.

Digital Communications

  1. Content Creation: Develop and design engaging content for various social media platforms, including text, images, and videos.
  2. Social Media Management: Schedule and post content, monitor social media channels, and engage with followers.
  3. Graphic Design: Create visual content using Canva.
  4. Website Development: Assist with updating and creating new pages on the company website.

Government Relations

  1. Legislative Research: Conduct research on legislative initiatives, policies, and regulations relevant to the maritime industry.
  2. Policy Analysis: Assist in analyzing and summarizing policy proposals and regulatory changes.
  3. Advocacy Support: Assist in organizing and implementing advocacy initiatives, including grassroots campaigns and lobbying efforts.
  4. Meeting Preparation: Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and agendas for meetings with legislators and other key stakeholders.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain and update contact lists, track interactions with legislators.

Who you are

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably with a focus on political science, public policy, communications, or a related field.
  • Creative Content Creator: Skilled in crafting engaging content for social media, with experience in managing various platforms and online communities.
  • Effective Communicator: Ability to create clear and compelling messages tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Policy Enthusiast: Genuine interest in the legislative process and public policy.
  • Organized and Detail-Oriented: Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent at building and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Eager Learner: Strong desire to learn, grow, and take on new challenges in both digital communications and government relations.
