A not-for-profit membership organization, with more than 20,000 members world-wide, AMS is the hub of all things Montessori: an information center for its members, the media, and the public; a voice in the public policy arena; and a mobilizing force for the global Montessori community, through support services, accreditation, credentialing, and affiliation services, research, and professional development events and offerings.

  • Reports to: Senior Director of Membership and Accreditation and Senior Director of Community and Events
  • Classification: Part Time (29 hours/week) (.75 FTE), Exempt
  • Worksite: This is a remote position working in the Eastern Time Zone. Work related travel is required 6-8 times per year. These trips typically include all or part of a weekend.
  • Annual Salary: $45,000-$50,000 for 29 hours/week

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to join our team as a Community Engagement Manager. This role is pivotal in fostering strong relationships within our regional-based communities and leading national/international engagement initiatives for the AMS Head of School community. The ideal candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and possess exceptional verbal and written communication and organizational skills to effectively drive community-centered initiatives, projects, and events.
The Community Engagement Manager will support a portfolio of regional events in various cities in North America alongside other online community-related initiatives. This hands-on role entails taking ownership of day-to-day coordination among staff, community professionals, and volunteers. The manager will collaborate closely with colleagues across the organization.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and attend AMS-sponsored regional-based community events (minimum of five per year) to strengthen relationships within AMS and foster a sense of belonging within membership
  • Initiate, lead, and coordinate the new AMS Head of School Cohort Program, which will include focused group discussions with the school leadership community and AMS Ambassadors for ongoing improvement and engagement
  • Create and maintain resources for school leaders and work with AMS staff to design toolkits for community projects and the Head of School Cohort Program
  • Monitor the level of engagement of community initiatives and regional events to determine areas for growth and improvement and make data-driven recommendations for improvement
  • Collaborate with AMS staff to identify opportunities for community involvement and program development
  • Cultivate a supportive and inclusive environment within AMS initiatives by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Assist with preparing budgets and providing periodic progress reports to Senior Directors for each event project
  • Track regional event finances including check requests, invoicing, and reporting
  • Foster personalized relationships with AMS school and community leaders
  • Support the work of the AMS Regional Action Commission
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a successful track record in engaging with diverse stakeholders and forging a shared vision
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with an ability to inspire trust and work at all levels of organization systems; track record as effective team builder preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and years of experience preferred; 3-5 years min experience
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Results-oriented problem solver who seeks out and incorporates diverse viewpoints to develop innovative solutions; demonstrated ability to work with differences and conflict
  • Montessori credential and/or strong familiarity with Montessori education
  • Proven ability to organize and complete multiple, simultaneous tasks with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
  • Strong management, organizational and planning skills are a must with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to identify and implement innovative solutions to department event processes
  • Ability to anticipate and troubleshoot unexpected challenges as they arise
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Ability to travel (6-8 times per year) required including some weekend and evening work
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Teams required. Proficiency with Google Docs is required as well.
  • Flexibility and grace; patience and a sense of humor
  • Background or knowledge in event registration systems is a plus
