Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Research Associate (SRA) will be primarily responsible for project management of APA's various research projects (federal or non-federal) studies (80% effort). In addition, the incumbent will provide effort to other Division of Research tasks such as project management assistant on DSM-5 related task aimed at the maintenance and revisions of DSM-5, harmonization with ICD, and the writing of pertinent DSM-related manuscripts and chapter revisions as well as grant proposals and associated deliverables. (20% effort).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Project management of APA's component of the various federally- and non-federally funded initiatives.
  • Work in collaboration with other APA divisions, pertinent Council members, and external partners including funding agencies to facilitate the expansion of the Division's initiatives such as the Maternal Mental Health Psychiatric Toolkit.
  • Work with Director of Research and our external partners to oversee adherence to research and publication guidelines developed for multisite collaborative research initiatives.
  • Data management, quantitative and qualitative data analyses, and dissemination of results.
  • Assist in the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication including assist in creating references lists for manuscripts, organize tables, format and submit manuscripts to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Lead survey development, programming, and deployment related to the Division's research and research training initiatives using REDCap and Alchemer.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the DSM-5 www.psychiatry.org/dsm5 Web site.
  • Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES
The Senior Research Associate's performance on these duties and responsibilities will be measured using the following competencies:
    • Work with the Director of Research to fulfill the tasks associated with APA Division of Research's component of various research and research training initiatives.
    • Plan and implement the timeline of tasks and deliverables associated with federal and non-federal funded projects.
    • Advise steering committee/advisory panel chairpersons and members on APA policies and procedures relevant to committee's/panel's operations.
    • Plan and implement in-person and teleconference meetings of the steering and review committees, prepare and disseminate meeting agendas and documents, prepare meeting minutes and other steering committee reports for review.
    • Develop and submit IRB application for various research projects.
    • Develop annual reports associated with various research projects.
    • Plan and implement project-related workshops and conferences.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners as it pertains to the maintenance and expansion of products that result from the Division's research and research training initiatives (e.g., AMNet, the Perinatal Psychiatric Toolkit).
    • Identify opportunities for ongoing funding for the Division's research and research training initiatives.
    • Assist in the development grant proposals for future funding for the Division's research and research training initiatives.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a research proposal tracking database.
    • Lead the coordination of the review process of internal and external research proposals that involves use of the Division's curated data.
    • Conduct the first phase of review of internal and external research proposals that involves use of the Division's curated data.
    • Work with Director of Research, the Senior Data Analyst, and Senior Researcher on data management activities.
    • Work with the senior data analyst on data analysis activities related to the Division's curated data for its research and research training initiatives.
    • Work with the senior data analyst in the development of result templates.
    • Assist with all DSM-5 operation activities within the Division of Research.
    • Ability to plan DSM Steering Committee and Future Strategic Committee, and their review committees in-person and teleconference meetings.
    • Drafting DSM related scientific content as assigned.
    • Providing response to DSM-5 diagnostic and coding inquiries from APA members, other organizations, other clinicians, and the general public.
    • Monitoring of the DSM-5 mailboxes, and take Answer Center referrals and referrals direct from the public. Respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
    • Monitor and review DSM-5 Web pages for timeliness of information presented
    • Update DSM-5 Web site when needed, working with APA IT staff as required.
SCOPE & IMPACT
  • This position is critical to various funded studies carried out at the APA, their timely management, and meeting the deliverables. The position also has impact on other DOR activities as discussed above.
  • Performs tasks that significantly impact the Division of Research projects and programs and require the ability to gather, organize, verify, compose, and/or analyze established concepts, policies, and procedures to complete several multistep functions

ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE
  • Demonstrates a full understanding of the work or project team's relationships and responsibilities within the department
  • Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of policies, procedures, and terminology of the related department/field
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in mental health, epidemiology, health services research, public health, or a related field with expertise in health disparities preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years work experience in project management and research coordination in a mental health field (preferably post-masters training).
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data analytic skills.
  • Demonstrated ability analyzing and publishing research findings related to mental health policy and clinical issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, SAS, Atlas.Ti, NVivo, and SUDAAN software.
  • Grant writing skills.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
