American Shoe Machinery Company is Hiring a Mechanical Engineer Near Beverly, MA

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. As the Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of mechanical components and systems for our products.

We are looking for a hands-on engineer with competency in electrical equipment, machinery, and controls. This role performs engineering duties in planning, designing, and installing electrical industrial control equipment, as well as general troubleshooting and downtime support to the production and operations teams. The work required is often hands-on, interacting with shop floor personnel to provide technical and procedural engineering support.

The ideal candidate has manufacturing experience, strong electrical and mechanical skills, and at least two years of recent SolidWorks experience.

Responsibilities

  • Problem identification and troubleshooting a variety of mechanical problems with limited supervision.
  • Develop, design, or modify mechanical engineering layouts/schematics and/or detailed drawings/specifications.
  • Lead and/or execute engineering projects, including development.
  • Generate mechanical product specifications.
  • Support manufacturing personnel involving equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
  • May be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of custom mechanical tooling, fixturing, and associated processes to enable the handling, assembly, and/or disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Implement concepts for a variety of product issues and mechanical solutions.
  • Update and modify safety procedures required to maintain machines and equipment in the suggested conditions to best facilitate the ideal operation of the manufacturing area.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Two or more years of designing schematics.
  • Knowledge of 2D CAD software is required, SolidWorks software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems is required.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge required.
  • Familiarity with current electrical engineering trends.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to identify issues and propose improvement plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Goal-oriented, ability to self-direct and follow through on projects.
