American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is Hiring a Senior Director of Facility Management Near Rockville, MD

A. General Description:
The Facilities Director at ASHA plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation and security of our 140,000 square foot gold LEED certified facility and a small, leased capitol hill office. This leadership position encompasses overseeing all aspects of building and grounds management, from implementing robust security measures to optimizing workspace utilization in alignment with our evolving organizational needs. With a focus on sustainability and efficiency, the Facilities Director leads a high-performing team to deliver exceptional service.
B. Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement plans, procedures and oversight mechanisms for the management and maintenance of the building and related infrastructure including HVAC, energy and security systems and any necessary processes needed to maintain Gold LEED designation in our Rockville Office. This includes planning for and implementing necessary capital improvements as well as day-to-day maintenance and improvement projects.
  2. Direct office support services and operations for the National Office. This includes contract management, records management, meeting support for onsite meetings to include catering and audiovisual support, reprographic services, in-house postal services, warehouse management, distribution center, and purchasing services.
  3. Oversee several vehicles and all capital equipment in the Rockville and DC offices.
  4. Oversee all aspects of vendor management related to facility operations. Negotiate contracts, implement tracking systems, review and approve invoices and project proposals and ensure vendors deliver services and products as required to meet ASHA needs.
  5. Manage the lease for ASHA's Capitol Hill Office. Manage leases and services provided to tenants in our Rockville Office including meeting with and establishing positive relationships with key tenant representatives. Manage the planning for lease expiration, working with ASHA's leasing agent and planning for any vacancy renovations.
  6. Maintain a high performing facilities management team. This includes hiring, training, managing, and evaluating the members of the team.
  7. Develop and manage the budget for the facility and all the services provided by the facilities team.
  8. Maintain liaison with local community and state groups addressing regulations affecting such areas as recycling, and property and property development.
C. Contacts:
To accomplish responsibilities listed above, the incumbent has contact with:
  1. National office staff
  2. Volunteers attending meetings in the N.O.
  3. Tenants
  4. Vendors and contractors
  5. Community and state groups that regulate areas that impact our facilities.
D. Freedom to Act:
The incumbent receives overarching work direction and objectives, allowing considerable autonomy in carrying out the work. Work undergoes administrative review to assess its impact and effectiveness.
E. Qualifications - Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Knowledge and skills typically acquired through:
  • 8 or more years of experience managing a building or facility
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience
  • experience managing a gold LEED certified building or demonstrated proficiency in sustainable facility management practices
  • a bachelor's degree in business administration, management science, public administration, or a related field
Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge:
  • Proven ability in problem-solving, demonstrated through successful resolution of complex challenges.
  • Track record of delivering project-oriented achievements on time and on budget
  • Proficiency in systems analysis, utilizing analytical skills to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Expertise in contract negotiation, securing favorable terms and agreements.
  • Exceptional administrative and organizational skills, adept at deadline management, support coordination, and issue anticipation.
  • Extensive experience in contract and vendor management, ensuring seamless collaboration and service delivery.
  • Thorough understanding of local and state regulations, including expertise in areas such as recycling programs and property development and management requirements.
