Summary:
Incumbent functions as the Assistant Director of Career Outreach and Programming in the Office of Career Development in the School of International Service (SIS) and will be responsible for establishing and developing relationships with external constituencies and coordinating programming to support the career development of SIS students. Organizes a full calendar of career programs and events to connect students with alumni, recruiters, industry representatives, corporations, professional organizations, and others who provide opportunities to develop professional interests and competencies, integrate academic learning with work, develop sponsorships and partnerships, and explore future career possibilities.

1. ALUMNI AND EMPLOYER DEVELOPMENT
  • Establish and develop relationships with external constituencies, including alumni, recruiters, industry representatives, corporations, professional organizations, and others, to increase presence and participation on campus and enhance students opportunities for career exploration, networking, professional development, experiential education, and recruitment.
  • Designs alumni and employer development strategy with Director, Career Education and Employer Relations and other alumni and employer relations staff across the institution to increase diversity of organizations and opportunities available to students and alumni.
  • Identify and communicate with prospective employers to meet student needs, respond to industry employment/hiring trends, and enhance school brand.
  • Facilitate and implement recruiting and marketing/branding strategies to gain appropriate visibility and connections on campus for employers.
  • Represents SIS and Office of Career Development at events at university and employer events.
2. EVENT AND PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
  • Develop and execute a full calendar of creative and innovative career programming and experiential education activities, including site visits, job shadowing, speed networking, mock interviews, and more, to meet the needs of students, alumni, employers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that goals set for programming are in alignment with the mission of the unit, division, and institution, and meet the needs of a diverse population.
  • Establish and follow basic budgets for programs and events, and demonstrate effective stewardship and use of fiscal resources.
  • Ensure that programming is managed effectively from start to finish and that appropriate resources are available for implementation.
  • Use knowledge of technical applications and learning styles to make informed choices regarding the use of technology with/for programming, and ensure that technological applications are inclusive and adhere to the accepted principles of accessibility and distance learning.
  • Develop marketing strategy to recruit students, alumni, and employers to participate in programming.
  • Assess student learning outcomes for programming, and implement changes based on assessments.
  • Provides summaries of programming to Director, Career Education and Employer Relations.
  • Assist with planning and participate in relevant events hosted by AU Career Center and other offices on campus, as needed and appropriate.
3. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
  • Stay informed about economic, political, and global issues that affect higher education and major employment trends.
  • Collect occupational, career, and job information and knowledge of the labor market, employment trends, and recruiting strategies and techniques from external constituencies.
  • Work with director to compile findings into succinct and impactful reports and presentations for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Provide basic consultation to students and alumni on job-search tools and strategies, including resume writing, developing cover letters and job-search correspondence, interviewing, networking, and making connections with employers.
  • Assist with collection and analysis of post-graduation outcomes.
4. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
  • Assists the Director of Career Education & Employer Relations and team members in the Office of Career Development with special projects to enhance career development for SIS students.
Salary Range:
  • $58,276 to $65,000 annually.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • 35 hours per week.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Supervises Students.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of current employment trends in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
  • Previous experience in international affairs.
