American University is Hiring an Open Rank Professor in Ecology, Department of Biology, Starting August 2024 Near Washington, DC

The Department of Biology in the College of Arts & Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor beginning August 1, 2024. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. Depending on qualifications, the appointee to this position may be recommended for tenure at the time of hiring.

The ideal candidate for this position is a collaborative Ph.D. scientist with an established research program in molecular-, evolutionary-, conservation-, global change-, or disease ecology at the organismal, population, community, or ecosystem level. This individual will complement the biology department's strengths and establish synergies with other science departments in the College of Arts & Sciences. Applicants should have demonstrated effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates with experience working with, teaching, or mentoring a diverse student body, and those able to contribute to and foster diversity and inclusion efforts on campus and with respect to the biology curriculum are preferred. Responsibilities will consist of maintaining a vigorous and internationally visible research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, recruiting graduate students, and participating in department, college, and university service. The successful candidate will occupy lab space in the university's new Hall of Science, a state-of-the-art facility that houses the biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, and neuroscience departments.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Best consideration will be given to applications received by October 15, 2023. Please submit applications via: http://apply.interfolio.com/129962 . Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement (including accomplishments and future directions), teaching statement describing how prior experience and future goals will advance the department's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a list of three professional references.
