Internal Policies and Procedures: Responsible for the governance and oversight of American Water HR Policies and Procedures. Drive the review process with owners and stakeholders for necessary changes that accurately reflect company processes are in compliance with federal, state and local law. Provide interpretation and guidance to HR Operations and Centers of Expertise on proper applicability and implementation of policies/practices. Research and anticipate future policy/practice needs and provide recommendations to HR and leadership as appropriate. Oversee the workplace employment law poster process and communications, ensuring workplace employment poster compliance for all locations.
Employment Law Legislation:
In partnership with our Legal compliance team, identify changes in the legal landscape for upcoming and pending legislations and identify impacts and recommendations to leadership.
I-9 Compliance:
Manage the company’s I-9 and E-Verify program and processes. Develop procedures, processes/workflows, notifications, job aids, and training for managers. Periodically self-audit to ensure audit readiness.
Affirmative Action Planning /EEO Compliance & Audits:
Manage the company’s Affirmative Action and EEO Program, including data reporting to vendor, analysis interpretation and communication of results to HR, managers and senior/executive leadership, developing and maintaining affirmative action training for managers. Serve as a subject matter expert and responds to inquiries from HR or the business. Develop and maintain affirmative action plans (AAPs) in accordance with legal guidelines. Monitor progress and recommend strategies to enhance diversity and inclusion.
Manage the company’s audit response and requests for information, responding on behalf of company, and liaise with various government agency officials during establishment reviews and audits (for example, DOL-OFCCP, DOL-WHD, USCIS-ICE, state agencies, state regulators (for example, PUC management audits) and mandatory BLS reports).
Risk Management: Conduct periodic and cyclical audits to assess risk and the effectiveness of HR Programs in meeting compliance standards. Lead mitigation strategies, changes, and recommendations as appropriate. Assist in the development of corrective action plans when areas of opportunity are identified in audits/reviews.
HR Compliance Reporting/Research:
Manage compliance reporting processes. Performs complex research, in-depth analysis of current practices and evaluate/escalate for potential downstream impacts.
Training:
In partnership with our learning center of expertise and vendors develop training courses, communications, and guidance to educate employees, managers and HR on policies, procedures, processes, and compliance requirements (for example, AAP, I-9, sexual harassment).

Our next Manager, HR Compliance will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of all HR compliance responsibilities; including but not limited to employment law, training, proactive audits of compliance activities across HR, required state and federal reporting, and special compliance projects.
