About Americares Free Clinics:
The mission of the Americares Free Clinics is to provide quality health care to low-income, uninsured patients in a setting where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. Americares opened its first clinic in 1994 to expand access to care for the working poor. Over the years, our program has grown to become the largest free clinic network in the state with four locations serving 2,000 patients annually. Today, our clinics in Bridgeport, Danbury, Norwalk and Stamford are the primary source of free medical care for the uninsured in Fairfield County.

About the position:
TheClinic Director will direct and coordinate the operation of the free clinic toensure that high-quality medical care is delivered to all patients. He/she/they is responsible for oversight of staffand volunteers, which is key to efficient and effective operations. As a member of the clinic’s leadership team,input into strategy and future direction essential.

Key Outcomes:
In the first 90 days…

  • Under supervision of Senior Director, Operations, demonstrate a thorough understanding of free clinic model.
  • Utilize Athena for all daily operations troubleshooting as needed.
  • Work with Director Staff and Patient education on orientation for new staff members.
  • Get to know community partners.
  • Oversee referrals, programming and resource utilization.
  • Demonstrate strong professional interpersonal skills to interface effectively with staff, partners and extended community.

In the first 6 months…

  • Utilize Athena to develop queries and other quality measures.
  • Evaluate use of resources and other quality parameters with Director Clinical Operations.
  • Ongoing preparation for licensing requirement
  • Implementation/follow up of projects such as SDOH, SBIRT, specialty care
  • Through respectful leadership and example, motivate staff to perform at highest level.

In the first year…

  • Be proficient in all aspects of Athena EHR.
  • Participation in quality improvement programs, policy development/review
  • Complete leadership training program with Director Staff and Patient Education
  • As part of leadership team, provide thought leadership to optimize program success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsiblefor the quality, continuity and coordination of care for all clinic patients.
  • Maintain/mandateaccurate and complete documentation of patient care.
  • Superviseclinic sessions including screening process, medical evaluation and care,referrals and organization/flow of session either directly or through assistantdirector.
  • Provideleadership and orientation for all volunteers. 
  • Evaluateskills, provide training with Director Staff and Patient Education anddemonstrate passion for the mission through example.
  • Beskilled in all procedures performed at clinic and set example for volunteerstaff.
  • Maintainregular communication with Senior Director, Operations informing her onessential issues, seeking guidance and support when appropriate.
  • Beprepared at all times for licensing inspection and be aware oflicensing/regulatory issues including implementation of infectious diseaseguidelines and HIPAA, OSHA standards.
  • Participatewith the development of policies, procedures, clinic protocols, peer reviewprocess and QIP.
  • Providesupport/training for all Athena EHR roles, staff and volunteer, and beknowledgeable to troubleshoot EHR issues as they arise.
  • Developreport queries as necessary, build schedules, add/delete users, etc.
  • Overseefollow-up and establish a system to ensure nothing falls through thecracks.
  • Maintain physical clinic site, identify inventory needs, advise on equipmentrequirements and remain vigilant regarding cost containment.
  • Workwith providers to ensure patients receive the most appropriate medicationsthrough the most cost-efficient process.
  • Coordinatein-kind services donated from hospitals, laboratories and specialty groups tooptimize patient care and maintain integrity of the program. 
  • Interfacewith fundraising program and community promotional activities as needed. 
  • Participatein community and professional groups to promote clinic awareness, coordinateresources, improve delivery of services and insure personalgrowth/development. 
  • Acknowledgethat AFC maintains a policy and procedure manual at all locations and agree tofollow the policies and procedures set forth within themanual.
  • Performother duties as may be requested by Americares Free Clinics.


Key Requirements

  • Licensed RN in CT with at least 5 years of related work experience in an adult primary care setting with progressive management experience and a passion for working with the uninsured, diverse population.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing preferred
  • Professionalism and the ability to make good judgment in fast-paced setting.
  • Leadership skills with experience managing and motivating employed and volunteer staff.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to work well in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong EHR skills; ability and desire to be trained as Super User
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Team orientation; balanced focus on personal accountability and team goals
  • Spanish fluency required.

US work authorization required.
