AmeriCorps is Hiring a LEAP Farm-to-School Coordinator (Maplehill) Near Lyndonville, VT
This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a national service program that places AmeriCorps members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont and surrounding areas to support those organizations in building capacity and expanding their educational and/or environmental services that many communities rely on. LEAP supports members in their path to educational and career attainment through direct service, on-going trainings, and professional development opportunities offered during the service year. Through the acquisition of academic, vocational, and social skills, students are prepared for further education, training, employment, and independent living. Nestled in the hills of central Vermont, with a working farm (vegetables and animals), three campuses, and 230 acres, we are committed to land-based learning that is rooted in milieu therapy and nurturing authentic relationships between students, staff, volunteers and community members. Member Duties : - Participate in all meetings, professional and personal development activities; - Collaborate with Farm Educator and Farm to Table Coordinator to provide food access options through weekly shopping trips, daily food service support, and kitchen service; - Inventory food demands from each campus and assist with food distribution across campuses and community organizations; - Support Community Service member with monthly food drop packing and distribution; - Collaborate with the Farm Educator to support farm tasks as seasonally appropriate including animal care (laying chickens, goats, and beef cattle); - Support essential life skill building for youth; support small groups and 1:1 educational and recreational opportunities and lead a weekly Harvest of the Month culinary class; - Provide in-school educational opportunities for youth to explore environmentally conscious practices and outdoor recreation through onsite and community-based land projects.
