Missoula Parks and Recreation enhances the quality of life in the City of Missoula by promoting health and wellness; stimulating, supporting and encouraging community and economic development; protecting the environment; educating residents; and ensuring that all people feel safe, welcome, and valued in Parks and Recreation facilities and programs. This AmeriCorps position will be dedicated to supporting our youngest campers (3 and 4 year olds) as they experience the magic of summer camp for likely the first time. Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state. Member Duties : As an AmeriCorps member with Missoula Parks and Rec’s Tiny Sprouts & Super Sprouts program, you will spend the summer outside with campers in awe of the natural world around them while ensuring their basic needs are met. Schedules and activities will be provided for you for each program, though flexibility and adaptation is often required based on weather, group dynamics, and other factors. Activities will include spending time in McCormick Park; river bank fun, ropes course adventures, biking/strider biking along the river, arts projects, and more! This position will always work alongside additional trained staff with Parks & Recreation and will have direct support from our leadership team.
