In Missoula, the community desperately needs housing people can afford. In the past decade, the area's median home price has doubled, pushing the majority of housing out of the affordable range. Missoula families are now having to make the decision to leave the place that they call home or pay outrageous housing prices. The housing supply is not keeping up with the rate of demand, further driving prices up. The market sector cannot solve this problem on its own, nor can the government sector. Nonprofits will play a critical role in addressing this issue. Habitat for Humanity of Missoula is dedicated to taking on a leading role in the housing crisis by increasing their production incrementally to provide more affordable housing options each year. This work is not easy, but it is desperately needed. To do this, Habitat has been researching innovative ways to build more homes, at a faster rate. With the help of our Innovation Team, Land Acquisition & Development Team, and Philanthropy Team we will continue to innovate and help Missoula families achieve their dream of homeownership. With the help of an AmeriCorps VISTA, we will be able to further expand our organization and find more efficient ways to operate. During the VISTA’s year of service, they will have the opportunity to develop various communications and marketing skills, as they will be developing a new annual communications plan, building capacity for sustainable resource development, and expanding public awareness and engagement! All of these skills will help prepare them for the next chapter of their lives. Best of all, they will get to do all of this in the beautiful Missoula Valley and have the opportunity to explore all of the wonders Montana has to offer!

Member Duties : The VISTA member will be responsible for a range of communications-related duties, including participating in the development and implementation of an annual communications plan, creating outgoing materials for print, broadcast, and digital media channels used to communicate with the organization's constituent base, working alongside staff, board, and volunteers to improve communication with stakeholders, reporting on the outcomes of the annual communications plan, building organizational capacity for sustainable resource development, supporting the work of fundraising campaigns, expanding public awareness and engagement in Missoula, and supporting ongoing staff efforts to broaden program outreach. In addition, the member will be responsible for keeping up-to-date on current trends in communications and marketing, providing creative and innovative solutions to communications challenges and working effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
