South Portland Middle School -Restorative Justice- Maine
South Portland Middle School, newly constructed last fall, is entering its second year to serve the racially, economically, and linguistically diverse 5th-8th grade students of our city. We are looking for five AmeriCorps members to join our team as Restorative Justice Fellows to support the social-emotional needs of our students. South Portland Middle School is a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school, which means we clearly teach our shared expectations to all students (safe, respectful, responsible, and kind); reward students who follow those expectations (think: Popcorn Fridays! Field Days!); and put support plans into place for students who struggle to meet expectations. In addition, we are a Restorative Justice and Trauma-Informed Practices school and focus on teaching students how to engage positively and responsibly with their peers and the school community. Our Restorative Justice Fellows team will work collaboratively to bring the values of PBIS, restorative justice, and trauma-informed practices to life through their interactions with students, program development, and conflict resolution work. They will receive support, training, and supervision from our administrative team and work collaboratively with teachers to support students. In addition, there are many opportunities to run after school enrichment programs that align with members' interests. We are looking for collaborative, student-centered Fellows for this innovative new program. This is a great opportunity to learn about and support diverse public schools, so bring your friends to South Portland, Maine and come work at our new school!
