Job Overview Provides supervision, training and problem-solving ability to the Charge Entry Coders. Provides assistance to the Charge Entry Coders as it relates to daily workflow, data analysis, change implementation and education in a continuous effort to improve processes and ensure compliance. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages the activities of the Charge Entry Coders, interviews, and trains new Charge Entry Coders, performs quality reviews and evaluates employee performance. Plan and organize accurate payroll records. Counsels' employees as needed and follows established policies and procedures for taking disciplinary actions.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of key requirements of all designated non-supervisory functions.
Maintains assigned managerial work queues and monitors assigned coder related work queues to meet established department and financial initiatives.
Recommends changes in workflow processes as appropriate to accomplish month-end and or year-end goals.
Demonstrates a clear understanding of NCCI edits and proper modifier usage.
Develops, collects and reports internal quality indicators for assigned areas. Able to identify areas that need improvement.
Monitors daily workflow and provides support to the department in the absence of the supervisor.
Works with RCM Manager and Director to assure formal written procedures and internal coding guidelines and resources are current.
Possesses knowledge of coding processes and can contribute to the daily workflow.
Works closely with ancillary departments, physicians and support staff to ensure proper documentation is available to support coding, medical necessity and compliance
Demonstrates competency in all computer applications and equipment required to complete all job responsibilities.
Completes special projects accurately and timely as assigned
Assists with the new employee training as well as provide education and support to current staff.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Previous supervisory experience a plus
Active CPC or AHIMA Coding certification
Thorough knowledge of NCCI, and proper modifier usage
Thorough knowledge of immunization coding
Must be able to perform several responsibilities at once and meet required deadlines
Must be detail-oriented and organized.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction, complete assignments timely and accurately.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge in coding compliance
Overall knowledge of Hierarchical Condition category
Proficient problem identification and resolution skills
Strong detailed analytical skills
Skilled in exercising initiative, Judgement, discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Proficient computer skills
Requirements:
High School Diploma
Active coding certification through AAPC, CPC, or CCS
