Ampact is Hiring a Lead Reading Tutor - Hidden Springs Elementary Near Moreno Valley, CA

Position Summary

Thousands of children need extra help to achieve grade-level skills in reading and math. Take action as a tutor and give kids more — more opportunities, more success and more confidence.

As a Lead Tutor, you’ll be placed at a local school where you’ll help students grow their academic skills. In addition to tutoring, you’ll utilize the skills you’ve learned through service to provide mentoring and leadership to fellow tutors and assist with program initiatives, member training and more. With training and on-site coaching, we’ll prepare you to help kids succeed and support fellow tutors.

We are currently recruiting Lead Tutors for the 2024-25 school year. Service will begin in August 2024. Only applicants who have previously served with our programs in Reading Corps, Math Corps or Early Learning Corps will be considered for this opportunity.

This is an AmeriCorps member position and a great opportunity to take your skills to the next level.

How You’ll Take Action

  • Provide ongoing modeling, support and peer-to-peer mentoring to fellow tutors.
  • Use proven strategies to help students build their skills and confidence.
  • Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data management software.
  • Respond to feedback and commit to continuous improvement through coaching, training and professional development.
  • Represent our programs at school-sponsored activities and share your experience with the wider community to help build awareness.

It Starts with a Passion

By the time they begin their service, our lead tutors are:

  • Members who have one or more years of experience as a Reading Corps, Math Corps or Early Learning Corps tutor.
  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to understand and follow instructions.
  • Open to making improvements based on feedback.
  • Capable of setting a pace and maintaining a schedule with students.
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading and writing.
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
