Description
Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Operation Programs and Services (OPS), Sustainability and student government.
Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Conference Services Student Front Desk . This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $16.00 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico and maintain at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student) throughout the course of employment.

Conference Services Student Front Desk Assistant
DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the AS Conference Services Events Manager help plan and organize the Conference Services functions of the Bell Memorial Union and ensure effective representation of the department and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is for a working level student position which assists Conference Services in the managing and organizing of the office and of events for the Bell Memorial Union through answering the phone and taking reservations both via e-mail and in person.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • While working in a fast paced environment, this position provides excellent customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Work with clients to make reservations for meetings, banquets and other events in the Bell Memorial Union while ensuring efficient and proper use of space.
  • Accurately enter reservation and catering information into computer.
  • Use Microsoft Office Excel to enter and reconcile invoices along with other light Account Receivable duties.
  • Perform basic office skills; answer phone calls, copying, filing, distributing mail, etc.
  • Help maintain overall office organization.
  • Collaborate with student organizations, campus community and outside groups while representing Conference Services.
  • Attend all related events and meetings.
  • Maintain Conference Services policies.

Conference Services Events Manager
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in AS Conference Services and throughout the Bell Memorial Union, in an office environment, and possibly outside environments; continuous contact with staff, campus community and public.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sit for extended periods; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, scanners and FAX; reasonable accommodations will be made.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Hotel or Hospitality experience preferred
Accounts Payable/Receivable experience preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs preferred.
Education:
Preference given to students majoring in Hotel/Restaurant Management and Event Planning
