Role: Mechanical Designer (Material Handling)
Location: Louisville, Kentucky (Onsite)
Long-Term Contract.
Job Description:
The Mechanical Designer (R&D) is predominately a machine design detailing role. The designer will be primarily involved in producing Designs, Drawings and Bills of Materials for custom automation and robotic prototypes for the MHS R&D Group. The designer will need the ability to calculate basic loads and stresses on parts and assemblies, and determine power train requirements (i.e. Motors, gearboxes, chains, belts, sprockets, etc.). The designer may be responsible for testing prototypes and creating test reports. The designer will familiarize themselves with manufacturing operations and methods to incorporate best practices of ‘Design for Manufacturing/Design for Assembly’. Additional duties may include creation of drawing and documentation packages.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1) The ability to use Autodesk Inventor CAD modeling software to design parts, weldments and bolt-together assemblies.
2) The ability to use Autodesk Vault to document designs, maintain CAD models, and build Engineering Change Requests.
3) The ability to calculate basic loads and stresses.
4) The ability to calculate and specify power train requirements.
5) The ability to create drawings for fabrication and assembly.
6) Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic components.
7) The ability to communicate and collaborate with others and other departments.
8) The ability to use basic computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
9) The ability to work within a time sensitive environment, estimate work, and meet deadlines.
10) The ability to be rules driven and detail oriented in documenting designs completely, correctly, and in conformance to MHSE standards.
11) The ability to adapt to changing priorities.
12) The ability to travel as needed to support field trials
Qualifications:
1) Associate degree in mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience.
2) (3) years of related machine design or material handling equipment design (experience with belt conveyors is a plus).
3) Experience using 3D modeling software (Inventor is a plus).
4) Excellent math skills are a plus.
5) Excellent organizational skills are a plus.
