AMPYR Energy USA is Hiring a Senior Manager, Project Development - BESS Near Long Beach, CA

AMPYR Energy USA (AMPYR) is seeking Senior Manager, Project Development - BESS to join our team in North America focusing on the rapidly growing renewable energy sector.

This position supports growth of our energy storage portfolio through greenfield development and project M&A opportunities for standalone BESS projects with significant focus on CAISO and ERCOT regions. Job responsibilities will include leading and supporting project origination, opportunity analysis, and project development activities across the development lifecycle of greenfield, co-development and acquired projects. This person will interact with internal team members and external project development partners on managing and reporting project schedules, budgets, spend and other critical development matters. Additionally, this person will lead and support origination and analysis of project acquisition opportunities, undertake research, analyses and support workstreams on land, grid, regulatory framework, permitting regime, local incentives, abatements, and support making necessary project filings. Successful applicants will have experience in project development and project management with an ability to research and present data. Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Research and originate potential greenfield development, acquisitions, and co-development project opportunities.
  • Systematically undertake market research and support formulating entry strategies for developing projects in new markets.
  • With support of senior management and inputs from other team members, create investment committee papers for seeking necessary project approvals.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders including legal, technical, financial, permitting and other advisors for various project development and due diligence activities. This includes being hands on with respect to land, grid, and permitting matters, including negotiations of various underlying agreements.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing BESS projects in California Independent System Operator (CAISO), knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and California Energy Commission regulations.
  • Identification and assessment of potential battery storage project sites, including due diligence activities, site selection and permitting.
  • Preparation and submission of interconnection and permitting applications to relevant agencies.
  • Manage all permitting workstreams including managing all land and environment surveys and coordination with various permitting agencies at all levels to obtain permit approvals.
  • Coordination with project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and equipment suppliers, to ensure timely and cost-effective project development and delivery.
  • Management of project budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaboration with local communities and stakeholders to secure project support and navigate any opposition.
  • Continuous monitoring of industry trends and regulatory developments to ensure compliance and competitiveness.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical engineering or a related field, and at least 5 years of experience in the development of battery storage projects in California. Strong project management and interpersonal skills are also essential.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, or major in energy related field or Energy Development education and background
  • 10 years of relevant work experience in renewable energy project development environment with 3 years in developing standalone BESS projects
  • Hands-on development experience in CAISO, ERCOT, SPP is a must
  • Have created, reviewed, and participated in management of contracts, schedules, budgets
  • Understanding of project financial models
  • Working familiarity with GIS platforms like ArcGIS.
  • Excellent computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs.
