JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The incumbent is accountable for for overseeing all aspects of the facility’s maintenance operations, including leading a team of maintenance engineers, developing and executing preventative maintenance programs, managing budgets, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and coordinating complex repair projects, with a focus on maximizing equipment uptime and minimizing downtime through strategic planning and proactive problem solving.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Analyze and determine equipment failures for root causes and recommend solutions. Utilize predictive maintenance tools including vibration analysis, oil analysis, infrared testing, electrical monitoring, etc. to maximize equipment reliability. Use CMMS as a tool to improve equipment reliability and identify previous equipment failures and repairs. Participate in decisions to rebuild, repair, or replace equipment..
2. Assist in various equipment improvement and maintenance projects. Manage plant capital and repair projects. Create a strategy for reviewing problem equipment and identify any gaps in spare parts or the ability to make timely repairs with skilled trades personnel.
3. Supervise maintenance department employees on as-needed basis; Fill in for maintenance engineers who are absent. Plan and assign work to hourly employees, as needed. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution, guidance from peers, and reliance of policies and procedures.
4. Develop capital spending plans through cross functional team approach. Identify projects that support increased process reliability, decrease overall cost structure, and removes risk of age and obsolescence from existing equipment.
5. Develop, analyze and improve preventative maintenance procedures. Facilitate or train skilled trades and operators on technical issues. Engage employee involvement with CMMS by leading equipment improvement teams.
6. Develop annual budgets for outside contractor, professional services, environmental services, and maintenance repairs. Identify cost save opportunities for these and other high-cost driver accounts.
7. Participate in the annual roundtable professional development and review process. Identify opportunities for development and career growth with direct reports, skilled trades, and production supervisors.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. Project management abilities, including problem solving, time management, planning, and leadership, are essential. Must be able to effectively communicate (verbally and written) with plant management, department supervisors and hourly employees on various equipment issues. Candidate must display proficiency in computer applications, including SAP experience; must be able to successfully complete required screening assessments. Knowledge of concepts supporting six sigma, lean manufacturing, preferred.
KEY CHALLENGES
The Senior Maintenance Manager interacts with Operations Manager concerning breakdowns and maintenance scheduling, Storeroom about availability and delivery of parts and supplies, Engineering Department involving major problems and equipment design revisions, and contractors involving maintenance projects. He guides and assists employees in determining the best method of repairing and maintaining plant equipment. The effectiveness of the position is measured by the timely and cost-effective maintenance of machinery and equipment to minimize production interruptions and increase production efficiencies.
