AmWINS is seeking an adaptable, driven and detail-oriented individual to join our CST Operations team as a Surplus Lines Tax Manager.

  • The Surplus Lines Tax Manager will be responsible for providing oversight of the surplus lines tax team in the East region, including hiring, managing and developing tax filing employees, collaboration with internal team members in other regions, as well as other departments and utilizing ongoing knowledge of surplus lines tax laws, filing and reporting requirements in the various states to ensure accurate and timely meeting of the various tax deadlines.
  • Our ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to drive success within the team by building, maintaining and monitoring team performance and morale. Must be flexible, have great attention to detail and problem-solving skills, and assist in building best practices for the future.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of professionals to ensure accurate, on time filings in accordance with regulatory / state requirements. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with large volume and hard deadlines.
  • Assess hiring needs, interview and onboard new employees and provide on the job training
  • Review and update processes in an effort to gain efficiencies while maintaining quality and compliance with state’s specific requirements
  • Review and maintain training materials / standard operating procedures
  • Resolve complex problems and drive decisions by utilizing data available across the firm and through industry partners
  • Ensure the team is meeting expectations by evaluating performance and working individually with employees to create a positive work environment and opportunities for growth
  • Ability to communicate and build positive working relationships within the team as well as all levels within the organization
  • Handle external audits and communication with various states, as appropriate
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in accounting and/or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in surplus lines compliance, filing/tax reporting experience a plus
  • Not less than 2 years of experience in people management required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Flexible, people oriented, and able to lead in a team environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to execute at high quality on assigned tasks within stipulated timelines
  • Ability to travel if needed
