Job Title: Digital Archivist

Digital Archivist: We are seeking a subject matter expert in all areas of digital archiving who will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality digital preservation services to our clients. The primary duties of this role are to provide archival consulting services to potential and current clients, work with Sales and Project Management to design and implement client projects and serve as the Technical Project Lead on projects.

Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Ongoing Education and Research: This role is expected to continually expand and share their knowledge of digital preservation, archival and library science, and collections management. New findings and technology are to be shared with the Archival team, Sales, Project Management, and clients.
  • Archival Consulting: Coordinate with Sales team and clients to determine the archival consulting services needed to meet each client’s unique goal and deliver the decided upon consulting work. This may include collection assessments, digital and physical preservation solutions, or client support throughout both the sales and project implementation processes.
  • Project Design & Execution: Coordinate the initial Discovery Project and/or Sample Run that helps determine how a collection will be digitized, levels of quality assurance, final deliverables, digital asset management options, etc. At the conclusion of the Discovery and/or Sample Run, provide clients with a list of their recommendations and work with the client to determine the full project design. Work with Project Management to manage clients’ projects from the design phase through final delivery and ensure project is on budget and on time.
  • Digitization: As a member of the Digitization team, perform duties including pre-processing collections, scanning, image processing, quality assurance, metadata tagging, and upload into various repositories.

Core Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2-7 Years of practical experience at an accredited cultural heritage institution or digital preservation firm preferred. Collection assessment experience preferred. Must also include at least 1 year in scanning and/or digitization.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Able to express ideas clearly and listen actively. Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to articulate technical and archival information to non-technical colleagues and clients.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Critical thinker with the ability to analyze and interpret information to understand complex situations. Adept at coordinating solutions through both collaboration with Archival team and independent research. An effective Subject Matter Expert can fill knowledge gaps through appropriate research and acquiring professional development from recognized organizations in the field.
  • Self-motivated: Capacity to work independently and take initiative. Commitment to developing additional expertise in relevant areas.
  • Team Player: Open to different perspectives and ideas. Willing to take initiative to assist based on team needs. Supports a constructive, respectful, and collaborative environment by focusing on solutions and addressing conflicts diplomatically and with empathy.
  • Adherence to Process and Standards: Ability to follow and document processes, workflows, and archival standards. Willingness to adapt to changes in these processes based on individual project requirements.
  • Physical Demands: Comfortable handling fragile collection materials according to internal guidelines. Can reasonably move/lift bankers’ boxes or other moderately heavy or oversized storage materials.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience; master’s degree in a related field preferred. Information governance or SAA certifications preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
