Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Master Machinist to join our team at our facility located in Birmingham, AL, 35209. As a Master Machinist, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of CNC machines, as well as performing manual machining tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC machining, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to read blueprints and perform machine setups for production runs.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain CNC machines including grinders, lathes (2-4 axis and 5 axis), mills (3-4 axis VMC and 5 axis VMC), routers, Swiss lathes, wire bending machines, etc.
  • Utilize calipers and micrometers to ensure precision in machining processes
  • Work with ERP software to track and manage production orders
  • Perform manual machining tasks using equipment such as manual lathes, router tables, shapers, and vertical lathes
  • Utilize CAM software to program CNC machines
  • Set up machines for production runs, ensuring proper tooling and fixturing
  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining specifications
  • Experience in deburring to ensure finished products meet quality standards
  • Knowledge of die attach/bonding processes
  • Strong shop math skills to perform calculations and measurements
  • Troubleshoot CNC machines to identify and resolve issues
  • Experience in tool/die/mold setup
  • Proficient in manual machining techniques
  • Manufacture products based on knowledge of products and current specifications.
  • Follow through with all assignments, communicating effectively throughout the process.
  • Maintain CNC machines and a clean, organized work area on a daily basis.
  • Maintain all documentation and follow procedures and specifications.
  • Participate in R&D and product design projects, as needed.
  • Display a willingness to lead and participate in all Punch and Machine Shop activities.
  • Successfully performs the essential functions of the job by properly interpreting situations, and demonstrating the use of appropriate actions/tools/skills/intuition/analysis.
  • Train co-workers in job functions, as necessary
  • Adhere to shop and safety procedures
  • All other duties as needed

Qualifications/Skills

  • Prior experience as a Master Machinist or similar role
  • Expertise in operating CNC machines including grinders, lathes (2-4 axis and 5 axis), mills (3-4 axis VMC and 5 axis VMC), routers, Swiss lathes, wire bending machines, etc.
  • Proficient in using calipers and micrometers for precision measurements
  • Experience with ERP software for production tracking and management
  • Strong knowledge of manual machining techniques and equipment such as manual lathes, router tables, shapers, and vertical lathes
  • Familiarity with CAM software for CNC programming
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Experience in deburring and die attach/bonding
  • Excellent shop math skills for calculations and measurements
  • Proven troubleshooting abilities for CNC machines
  • Background in tool/die/mold setup

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require any/all of the following during the course of operating machines in the Machine Shop:

  • Frequently required to stand

  • Frequently required to walk

  • Frequently required to sit

  • Hand/eye coordination is required

  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl

  • Frequently required to use a microscope

  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard

  • Occasionally required to lift/push/carry heavy items

  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather)

  • Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts
