ResponsibilitiesThe Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory services shall be provided in accordance with the policies of the VA healthcare system where assigned. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitor and examine patients prior to procedures, as well as during and after
- Administer medications and assist the medical team in whatever they may need during the procedure
- Prepare patient and the surgical field in a sterile manner, and select required instruments, catheters, guide wires, and ancillary equipment necessary for the prescribed procedure
- Assist with catheter exchanges, injections, and balloon dilation
- Provide venous access via initiation of an intravenous (IV) line
- Care for patients requiring invasive hemodynamic support equipment to include an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) or an Impella
- Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team
- Poised and articulated when communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds
- Works cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments
- Participates in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs
- Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse academic program (BSN or ADN)
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- American Health Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Three (3) years of recent Cardiac Cath Lab RN work experience is required
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Lift up to 20 lbs
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
