APA Medical Equipment is Hiring a Medical Biller & Compliance Lead Near Minneapolis, MN

As the Medical Biller & Compliance Lead , you will be responsible for ensuring APA Medical Equipment continues to provide our customers with the highest degree of service and knowledge by managing audits and reports, effortlessly liaising with payors and patients, and effectively leading a team to uphold state and industry regulatory compliance.

Please note: This is a full-time in-office position. We are located in South Minneapolis just off the Hiawatha light rail line. If you are not located in the Minneapolis/surrounding areas or are not open to relocating please do not apply.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES IN YOUR FIRST YEAR MAY INCLUDE:

Within the first 30 days:

  • Participates in 2 week training in all onboarding tasks, the software system Brightree, APA processes and procedures for system use, the APA products and services, and employee handbook.
  • Meets employees and reviews expectations with the Billing Manager and gains an understanding of the day-to-day activities for each team member. Gains an understanding of payor relationships and common issues and shadows team members on how they work through issues.
  • Learns and reviews Stop-Hold reports and begins to understand the process for review, follow-up, and what it takes to clear the queue. Begins to audit and take action on stop-hold reports, reaching out to case managers to ensure information is correct.

By 3 months and ongoing:

  • Establishes and facilitates weekly 1:1 check-in with employees to review KPIs and reports KPI attainment data to Billing Manager and cascades feedback and adjustments where needed.
  • Creates a process to conduct quarterly compliance audits and manages the audit process and participates in and is a key player in the APA re-accreditation process (September 2024 - happens every 3 years) in partnership with the Billing Manager.
  • Anticipates potential payor or insurance issues due to market or recent partner trends, and audits survey data and analyzes to create and propose projects and company objectives.

By 6 months and ongoing:

  • Performs all functions independently and is the go-to resource to answer questions from external partners and team members, and partners with the leadership team to educate on market potential, assisting in research for mergers and acquisitions to contribute to company growth goals.
  • Continues KPI review cadence and facilitates quarterly performance management processes (reviews), maintains employee files, manages compliance auditing and communication process, and implements a systematic communication method for employees’ individual requirements.
  • Audits Stop-Hold reporting process, regularly communicates with case managers to ensure up-to-date information for patients and becomes a trusted resource for payors and educates on industry trends.

By 12 months and ongoing:

  • Provides recommendations for internal process optimization that benefits APA patients, identifies areas of opportunity for APA and learns new-to-us products or services and educates leadership.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews with all team members to ensure alignment on expectations, establishes a cadence and communication plan for all compliance related activities, and manages ad-hoc reporting requests due to expertise in APA systems.
  • Assesses external vendors and provides feedback to the leadership team on go-forward partnerships and is seen as the billing expert for customer payment concerns.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

✓ High School Diploma or GED required

✓ 5 years of relevant work experience in billing and compliance required

✓ 2 years in people supervision and/or management required

✓ Proven understanding of the billing process regulations and compliance requirements required

✓ Proven knowledge and understanding of Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements required

✓ Strong communication skills internally and externally with people (written and verbal) required

✓ Knowledge of medical codes highly preferred

✓ Experience supporting a compliance program audit in partnership with leadership highly preferred

✓ Experience working in an EHR/EMR system a plus
