Apex Placement & Consulting is Hiring an Environmental Specialist Near Detroit, MI

Are you passionate about creating a safe and sustainable workplace? We are looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join one of our top clients in Detroit to lead company health, safety, ergonomic, and environmental initiatives. In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing facility complies with all environmental regulations and standards. This role involves monitoring and improving the environmental performance of the organization, conducting environmental assessments, and developing strategies to minimize environmental impact.

What your day will look like:

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.(75% environmental, 25% safety)
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports, permits, and documentation as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Monitor air, water, and soil quality to identify potential environmental issues.
  • Collect and analyze environmental data and prepare detailed reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of environmental data and compliance activities.
  • Develop and implement waste management and pollution prevention programs.
  • Identify opportunities for waste reduction, recycling, and reuse.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Promote and support sustainability initiatives within the organization.
  • Develop and implement environmental sustainability programs and projects.
  • Educate employees on environmental best practices and sustainability.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects and changes to existing operations.
  • Evaluate potential environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to minimize environmental impacts.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training programs for employees.
  • Ensure all employees are aware of their environmental responsibilities and the company’s environmental policies.
  • Develop and maintain environmental emergency response plans.
  • Coordinate and participate in emergency response activities related to environmental incidents.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in environmental management within a manufacturing setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification in environmental management (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional, ISO 14001) is a plus.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform environmental monitoring tasks that may involve climbing, kneeling, or bending.
