Controller - Statutory Accounting

Administration · Birmingham, AlabamaA rapidly growing multi-state Workers Compensation full service program, is seeking to add to our Finance team. In this role, you will play an important part of managing our Insurance Company monthly and quarterly closing, preparation of monthly financial statements and preparation of quarterly and annual statutory filings.

• Complete requisite workpapers and journal entries necessary for month end close.
• Assure completeness and accuracy of monthly financial statements
• Prepare Quarterly and Annual Statutory filings.
• Complete quarterly premium tax filings.
• Ensure compliance with the law and company’s policies
• Prepare reliable current and forecasting reports
• Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization’s operations
• Serve as a resource to the staff responsible for monthly accounting.
• Serve as a resource to the staff responsible for financial reporting of Managing Agencies.
• Manage vendor relationships

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Controller or Senior Accountant
• Extensive knowledge of Statutory Accounting
• Experience with preparing Quarterly and Annual Statutory Filings.
• Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
• Accounting or finance degree with a minimum of 3-5 years' experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to strategize and solve problems
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and people skills
• An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers

Preferred Qualifications:

• MBA and/or CPA are considered a plus
• Management Experience
• Experience with regulatory bodies, specifically the Department of Insurance
