Job Description- GIS Technician

The Distributed Generation (“DG”) Geographic Information Systems (“GIS”) Technician is responsible for the input, processing, and maintenance of Distribution Renewables data in accordance with departmental work procedures and consistent with our client's GIS Data strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing DistGIS support for the personnel on the DG Interconnection Engineering & Project Management teams to administer DG programs and contracts but may have responsibilities for other DistGIS support of Behind the Meter (BTM) and distributed energy resource (DER) functions. Additionally, the successful candidate will also be responsible for conducting spatial analysis utilizing ESRI-based GIS software and for the production of specialized map products from our Distribution facilities data.

The DG Team has a hybrid work schedule and works in the office weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in Atlanta, GA.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES .

1. Post timely and accurate updates to the DistGIS database
2. Validate GIS model connectivity and correct connectivity issues
3. Adhere to mapping standards including but not limited to offsets, annotation, and symbology
4. Process data to support transfer of information between Distribution applications
5. Maintain high standards for data quality within all applications, including DistGIS
6. Reconcile database conflicts and take appropriate action to improve database performance
7. Perform analysis using GIS tools
8. Database development skills are preferred
9. Provide DistGIS support for personnel in the DG engineering department as needed
10. Create specialized map products including storm maps, switch maps, and underground distribution one-line diagrams

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

• Associates Degree or Certificate in GIS is required
• Bachelor’s Degree in GIS or Geography is highly preferred
• AutoCAD experience is highly preferred
• Knowledge of AutoCAD reference files, layer control and cells is highly preferred.
• GIS experience is highly preferred
• Experience with a Utility GIS system is a plus
• Experience with the ESRI Suite of GIS products is a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong computer skills in standard software packages (Microsoft Office products, etc.) is required

• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Analytical approach to problem-solving and solutioning skills
• Ability to self-manage and complete task with minimal governance
• Able to maintain focus on assigned task
• Familiar with data manipulation techniques
• Ability to perform spatial analysis
• Ability to create, query, and update databases (SQL, Oracle, MS Access)
