5WA: least acute unit with 21 beds; approximately 50% involuntary patients, some group programming, evening staffing ratio approximately 1: 3-4, noc approximately 1:6-7
5WB: 25 bed unit; some programming; staffing ratio is approximately 1:3-4; noc approximately 1:4-5
5MB: most psychiatrically acute unit, 21 bed unit for observation and stabilization, little programming, staffing ratio is approximately 1:2-3; noc approximately 1:4-5
Patients suffering from a mental illness who have demonstrated violent or assaultive behaviors preceding or during their admission, may be in psychiatric crisis needing intensive monitoring and interventions, may have co morbid medical problems, sudden psychosis or deterioration in mental status, often involuntarily detained
