Job Summary:

The Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment. This includes the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients with kidney failure or chronic kidney disease. The RN collaborates with physicians, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Care:
• Perform patient assessments to identify individual needs and conditions.
• Initiate and manage hemodialysis treatments, ensuring the safe operation of dialysis machines and related equipment.
• Monitor and document patient vital signs, symptoms, and progress during dialysis treatment.
• Administer prescribed medications and fluids as directed by the physician.
• Educate patients and their families on dialysis procedures, care plans, dietary restrictions, and lifestyle changes.
• Technical Duties:
• Set up, operate, and maintain dialysis machines and other related equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during treatment.
• Ensure proper sterilization and cleanliness of equipment and the dialysis environment.
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with nephrologists, dietitians, social workers, and other members of the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Participate in patient care conferences and contribute to the overall care strategy.
• Documentation:
• Accurately document patient information, treatment details, and nursing care provided.
• Maintain patient records in accordance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.
• Quality Improvement:
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
• Stay updated with the latest research, trends, and best practices in dialysis nursing.
• Compliance:
• Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and protocols.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements in the handling of patient information.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ASN or BSN) from an accredited institution.
• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of [insert state].
• Experience:
• Previous experience in dialysis nursing preferred.
• Experience in critical care, acute care, or nephrology nursing is an advantage.
• Certifications:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
• Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) is a plus.
