Appalachian Mountain Cl is Hiring a Camp Manager Near Meredith, NH

Three Mile Island Camp (TMI) is looking for a Camp Manager starting in thesummer of 2019. The Camp Manager(s) is/are responsible for all operations ofthe TMI Camp during the 10-week summer season, from mid-June to late August andhas administrative responsibilities during the rest of the year. The Camp Manageris hired by the TMI Committee with the approval of the Appalachian Mountain Club's (AMC's) Vice President ofOperations and reports to the TMI Committee Chair. The Camp Manager will alsobe in regular communication with AMC staff for issues including, but notlimited to, human resources, payroll and accounting.


Specifically, the Camp Manager will:
- Serve as host for approximately 90 campers perweek, ensuring their safety, comfort and enjoyment.- Hire senior staff members when necessary:Administrator/Assistant Manager, Cook, Baker and Maintenance Manager.- Recruit, supervise and mentor a 19 person Crew typicallyconsisting of employees ages 18-22.- Oversee the finance, food service and maintenanceoperations of the island.- Be responsible for the smooth operation of allaspects of the camp.


This position has sometimes been filled by two individuals operating asCo-Managers without an Assistant Manager, and the TMI Committee is open toother management team configurations.
Summer Season Responsibilities(mid-June to late August):
- Manage overall operation of the island duringthe 10-week summer season. - Promote a positive camper experience withoutcreating a resort hotel environment. This includes the ability to create anenvironment in which campers can relax, recreate and commune with nature andeach other. - Provide daily supervision of and collaborationwith staff.
- Work with the Crew Boss on job assignments,standards and performance.
- Oversee planning of menus with the Cook.
- Oversee upkeep of all facilities with theMaintenance Manager.
- Conduct evaluations of all staff members.
- Provide sound fiscal management of campoperations.
- Maintain the island tradition of simplicity andliving close to nature.
- Provide for the safety and comfort of campers.
- Keep accurate accounts, reports and records. 
Off-Season/Pre-SeasonResponsibilities:- Hire to fill vacant staff and Crew positions.
- Open camp with volunteers and Crew in earlyJune.
- Assist in closing camp at end of season in lateSeptember (in conjunction with fall Committee meeting).
- Author an annual email newsletter.
- Participate in fall, winter and spring TMICommittee meetings. - Prepare Manager’s Report for fall Committeemeeting. - Communicate with committee members, staff and Crewto prepare for the summer season
Reporting Structure: The CampManager reports to the TMI Committee Chair and manages all other staffincluding the Crew, Assistant Manager, Cook, Baker, Maintenance Manager,Administrator, etc.
Qualifications: The idealcandidate(s) will possess the following skills and/or experience.
- Experience working with young adults inpromoting a positive environment, including a strong work ethic and cooperativespirit.
- Commitment to a rewarding summer experience andpersonal development for Crew and employees.
- Strong interpersonal skills and effectivecommunication abilities. - Excellent customer service skills.
- Solid management experience including personnelmanagement.
- Experience in financial operations. - Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with and meetthe needs of campers.
- Experience with boats, building maintenanceand/or food service is desirable.
- Experience and interest in making decisions withconsideration for environmental sustainability.
- Ability to set goals with and utilize theresources of a dedicated volunteer committee.
- Ability to drive/learn to drive boats and passNew Hampshire Commercial Boat License test.

More about the AppalachianMountain Club and Three Mile Island Camp: The Appalachian Mountain Club isa non-profit organization whose mission is to “promote the protection,enjoyment and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters and trails of theAppalachian region.”
Three Mile Island Camp is a rustic retreat owned by the AppalachianMountain Club. For over 100 years the camp has provided guests with anopportunity to leave hectic, technology dependent lives for a vacation innatural surroundings. The camp is a 43-acre island located on New Hampshire’sLake Winnipesaukee and is frequented by families, couples and individuals whostay one or two weeks in simple, lakeshore cabins or tents. Their days arespent relaxing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, fishing, playing tennis, readingand talking with others. TMI offers limited programming for campers. The facilitiesinclude: a main lodge, dock area, 51 lakeshore cabins and tents, outhouses andother buildings, boats and recreational equipment and woods and walking paths. Threefamily-style meals are served daily. The camp is supported by a dedicatedvolunteer committee that provides management and operational oversight andguidance.
