Appalachian Regional Healthcare System is Hiring a Transport aide Near Boone, NC

Position Summary

The Patient Transporter at Watauga Medical Center is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of patients within the hospital.

This role is critical to maintaining the flow of operations and ensuring patients are moved safely between various departments, including radiology, operating rooms, and patient rooms.

The Patient Transporter also assists in the transport of equipment and specimens as needed. Key Responsibilities :

  • Patient Transport : Safely and efficiently transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to various locations within the hospital, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Communication : Maintain clear and effective communication with nursing staff, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate transport activities.
  • Safety : Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety, infection control, and transport protocols.
  • Equipment Handling : Safely operate and maintain transport equipment, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.
  • Documentation : Accurately complete transport logs and documentation as required by hospital protocols.
  • Patient Interaction : Provide compassionate and respectful interaction with patients, addressing their needs and concerns during transport.
  • Team Collaboration : Work collaboratively with other transporters and healthcare staff to ensure efficient and effective transport services.
  • Emergency Response : Respond promptly to emergency transport requests and assist in emergency situations as needed.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges from $16.00 - $23.

20 / hour. This position is benefits eligible after a 60-day waiting period.

Position Qualifications Minimum Education

High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience

Experience within the hospital environment preferred

Required Registration / License / Certification

CPR Certification (can be obtained upon hire)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physicians and acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to read, write, and count
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians
  • Excellent emotional intelligence and communication
  • Reliable time-management and punctuality
  • Good physical fitness

  • Lifts, positions, pushes, pulls, and / or transfers up to and greater than 300 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and mobility
  • Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting / standing / walking
  • Bending, squatting, twisting, and turning
  • Near acuity : ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less

Working Conditions

  • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
  • Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical / mechanical / power equipment, odorous chemicals and specimens, and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
  • Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies
