Overview
Performs nuclear medicine imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines. Prepares and transports patients as necessary. Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images, as need for interpretation. Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS. Maintains Quality Control on Equipment as Instructed.
Special Instructions
Nuclear Medicine Technologist Registered, Day shift M-F No call, ARRT Certification. MAJOR ACTIVITIES: Prepares stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculates doses to be administered by the Radiologist. Positions the patient for radiation imaging procedures. Subjects patients to radiation as prescribed by Radiologist. Measures glandular activity, traces radioactive doses, and calculates the amount of radiation. Executes blood volume, red cell survival, and fat absorption studies, following standard laboratory techniques. Completes images of the drugs as they pass through or locate in different parts of a patient's body. Detects existence of pathological conditions by viewing images on a screen or on films. Administers small quantities of radioactive drugs to patients and the body specimens taken from patient such as blood and urine, and measures for drug and/or hormone content. Insures that radiation safety procedures are carefully followed in the handling and storage of radioactive materials used. Performs other related duties within the scope of the job classification. Nuclear Medical Technologist Page 2 D. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Bachelors or Associate degree in a physical and biological science or licensed Registered Nurse or Radiologic Technologist. AND Completion of a one year program certified by the Committee on Allied Health Education Accreditation or four years clinical experience in Nuclear Medicine AND Successful completion of the Nuclear Medical Technology Certification Examination OR High school graduate with six years clinical experience in nuclear medicine technology under the supervision of a physician who is licensed in the practice of nuclear medicine, isotopic pathology or nuclear radiology AND Successful completion of the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Examination (AART). E. POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess the physical ability needed to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently; and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
Responsibilities
Must be available for on call assignments, as needed.
Qualifications
Associate's Degree Graduate of an approved nuclear medicine program that meets requirements for Certification as established by State Guidelines Required
1-3 years Preferred
Current CPR Certification Basic Computer Skills ALARA guidelines Must be able to meet hospital on-call requirements.
Must be certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (N.M.T.C.B.), or be ARRT Registered or be certified with the State. State license required.
