The Painter is responsible for performing tasks that are basically painting oriented and are typical of those tasks found in maintenance and/or construction.
Prepares surfaces for painting or installation of wallpaper, vinyl covering, ceramic tile or similar finishes by use of sandpaper, wire brush, steel wool, removers, blow torches, or equipment designed for this purpose.
Fills nail holes, cracks, joints, and/or makes repairs with putty, plaster, dry wall compound, caulking or other fillers.
Selects premixed or mixes paints to match specified colors or shades by blending and/or mixing required proportions of pigment, oil, thinner, and drying substances.
Applies paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, lacquers, ceramic tile, wallpaper, vinyl coverings or similar materials, to interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, furniture, fixtures, or equipment.
Repairs finish surfaces such as paint, vinyl covering, wallpaper and ceramic tile. Primarily will be assigned to tasks related to exterior painting and projects.
Applies finishes to surfaces by using brushes, roller, and/or spray gun. Creates special effects by application of products with cloth, brush, sponge, finger, or other similar item.
Performs duties such as the following: Cut stencils and stencil surfaces with lettering or decoration.
Reads blueprints, schematics, and related type drawings and specifications to determine proper layout and accomplishment of assigned tasks.
Prepares detailed estimate of quantity of materials, supplies, and time necessary to accomplish assigned tasks.
Performs assigned tasks with either hand or power tools and in accordance with written or oral instructions.
May serve as an instructor to other personnel in education of job and tool safety and the painting field.
Selects stock, tools, and supplies for assigned tasks.
Loads and unloads stock, tools, and supplies from vehicles.
Stores stock, tools, and supplies in their assigned locations.
Maintains on-going knowledge of applicable codes pertaining to hospitals and the painting field.
Operates vehicle as required and maintains a maximum/minimum stock system of supplies and tools on vehicle.

Completes sections of service requests, work requests, and/or project forms such as time and date started, time and date completed, and materials used.
Performs assigned tasks either interior or exterior and from heights up to 160 feet.
Maintains work area in a safe and orderly manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned.High School Diploma or GED equivalent
AND
Must have four (4) years experience in the painting field. The four (4) years can be a combination of one of the following:
A. A combination of successful completion of one (1) year in a technical school and three (3) years painting experience. Each 100 hours technical school, over the required 1300, may be substituted for, one ¬half (1/2) year work experience.
B. A combination of successful completion of four (4) years apprenticeship program in the painting field.
C. Job related experience in functional area totalling 4000 hours.
Technical school(s) must be a combination of classroom study and shop experience. The course should contain no less than 1300 hours and include such subjects as fundamentals of painting and interior decorating, blueprint reading, specification preparation, human relations, materials selection and application, and use of hand and power tools.
Cooperative education programs where the student receives on-the-job experience with business and industry may be substituted for shop experience.
