    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Supervises and manages the day to day operation of athletic programs to ensure compliance with DIAA, conference, and district regulations
    • Works with school and district administrators to develop and implement developmentally appropriate athletic policies and procedures in line with the district’s overall educational mission and goals.
    • Oversees budget; maintains records of all athletics’ expenditures, deposits, and payments
    • Schedules all athletic contests; create schedules with input of coaches and school administration
    • Secures sanctioned game officials for all scheduled contests
    • Schedules transportation and and coordinates classroom dismissal
    • Oversees the recruitment, selection, supervision, development and evaluation of all coaches.
    • Ensures coaches fulfill all necessary trainings and attend necessary meetings
    • Schedules and conducts coaches’ meetings at the beginning of each season to review expectations and guidelines.
    • Oversees the distribution, collection, storage, upkeep, and replacement of all school athletic uniforms and equipment. Equipment and Uniform Maintenance and Inventory
    • Coordinates the scheduling of practices and athletic events at athletic facilities
    • Ensures that athletic fields and facilities are prepared and safe for hosting athletic practices and contests
    • Organizes game management and secures game workers; acts as game manager for home contests
    • Determines individual student eligibility; creates and submits eligibility reports (DIAA and District)
    • Manages district athletic eligibility waivers
    • Works with athletic trainer and school nurse to ensure that all student-athletes have turned in required forms/paperwork
    • Represents the school in all conference and athletic associations, and attends all meetings.
    • Maintains the athletic website with schedules, staffing, announcements and general athletic information
    • Reports Athletic Scholarships, Awards, and Recognition including signing days
    • Serve as public relations liaison for all routine news media requests related to athletics.
    • Maintain accurate records of team and individual athletic statistics and accomplishments.
    • Maintains records and documents as required and necessary to ensure proper documentation of athletic program activities, events, participation, and related information for the purpose of complying with school policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.
    • Reviews and revises the department handbooks annually.
    • Updates athletic banners and organizes trophy and award cases annually
    • Additional responsibilities as determined by supervisor
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Below are the qualifications for this position:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Physical Education, or related field; Certification preferred.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of DIAA rules and regulations, required.
    • Experience coaching at the high school level.
    • Experience managing formal sports/athletics programs and events,
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment or outdoors. Work may require the ability to move around the school, gymnasiums, or athletic fields. Duties may be performed away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
    PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
    • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
    • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
