    POSITION OVERVIEW
    In cooperation with District Supervisor and/or Specialist, to be responsible for leadership and management of the kitchen; supervising employees; equipment and food quality; and is the point of contact between students and school personnel concerning School Nutrition Services.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
    • Has the responsibility to make available to each student a nutritionally adequate lunch and/or breakfast with emphasis on the USDA School Meals Patterns.
    • Shall request foods, supplies, and equipment, through School Nutrition Services Supervisor and/or Specialist; checks, verifies and signs all delivery slips and invoices.
    • Shall supervise and participate in all food preparation and service in order to maintain high standards of quality, flavor, and merchandise for optimum appeal.
    • Shall maintain quality and quantity control through use of standardized recipes and production records.
    • Shall instruct and supervise staff on portion control.
    • Shall be responsible for received, issued, and stored School Nutrition Services food and supplies in accordance with proper standards and procedures.
    • Shall cooperate with the instructional staff in the development of a Nutrition Education Program.
    • Shall maintain high standards of health, sanitation and safety as required by State Board of Health and HACCP guidelines.
    • Shall instruct, supervise and participate in maintaining the physical appearance and cleanliness of entire kitchen and food service areas.
    • Shall instruct and supervise personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient operation, care and maintenance of equipment; as well as any other departmental related issues.
    • Shall evaluate each assigned assistant manager, cook, assistant cook, lead worker and general worker annually, at a minimum.
    • Shall prepare and maintain records and inventories of food, equipment, and commodities as required by School Nutrition Services.
    • Shall provide an orientation/ overview of the work area and primary responsibilities to each new employee within his/ her assigned kitchen.
    • Shall keep accurate daily time sheets, as required.
    • Shall verbally report all cafeteria sick leave used and personal days requested in a timely fashion to the School Nutrition Services Office with the appropriate paperwork follow up, as needed.
    • Shall plan work schedules for employees supervised and arrange for substitutes, as required.
    • Shall maintain accurate daily records of meals served, financial reports, bank deposits and all other required records.
    • Responsible for daily cash deposit at assigned school(s) and assures that the deposit is prepared properly for drop off at the specified bank.
    • As appropriate, will likewise assure that all deposit records are received by the School Nutrition Financial Secretary in a timely fashion.
    • Shall immediately report to School Nutrition Office all service and repairs needed.
    • Shall be familiar/ responsible for all aspects of the operation of the PCS Revenue Control POS and Trak NOW Inventory Systems (includes both knowledge of cash registers and computer related office duties); and Smart Temps food temperature monitoring system.
    • Demonstrates understanding of the USDA Professional Standards requirements for this position and acquires the appropriate annual professional training to meet this standard.
    • Shall establish, in the interest of good public relations, a healthy, cooperative relationship with building principal, staff, students and all to whom or from whom services are rendered or received.
    • Annually shall establish appropriate and meaningful goals for assigned building(s) with planned activities that support these goals.
    • Shall be knowledgeable of and shall uphold all School Nutrition and District policies and procedures.
    • Shall be familiar with the articles of the bargaining unit's contract and abides by these to the best of his/ her ability.
    • Shall perform other related duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor and/or specialist.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Below are the qualifications for this position:
    • Completion of six units of State School Food Service training under the sponsorship of the Department of Education. (Under the 2016 SY revised Unit Course program, four units must be completed.)
    • Knowledge of necessary sanitation precautions and procedures during food preparation and storage. ServSafe Certification, or willingness to obtain such, required for State Board of Health compliance.
    • Knowledge of requirements of USDA School Meals Patterns, as specified by the U.S.D.A. Child Nutrition Program.
    • Demonstrated skill in personnel relations and aptitude for successful performance of above duties.
    • Previous school food service experience preferred.
    • Possess the physical ability to perform the above responsibilities.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain skills. Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, operation of commercial food service equipment, movement of objects weighing 40-50 pounds and continuous standing.
    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    The work of this nature is generally performed in a school kitchen and cafeteria environment.

    • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
