The Project Engineer at Aprios Custom MFG plays a crucial role in supporting new molding and additive manufacturing programs from inception through validation. Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, the Project Engineer ensures that projects are seamlessly integrated into our manufacturing framework and customer expectations are met. This position demands strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of complex tools and processes. Additionally, the Project Engineer must be able to foster teamwork and lead cross-functional teams effectively. While the primary focus is on customer and project management, occasional involvement in injection mold design is expected.

Primary Mission: The Project Engineer is the key point of contact for new molding programs and additive manufacturing programs, managing customer expectations and timelines. The role requires close interaction with cross-functional teams including tooling, processing, and quality, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards. Though injection mold design is part of the role, it constitutes only 5-15% of the job.

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary liaison between customers and internal teams, ensuring customer expectations and timelines are met.
• Develop manufacturing process solutions to meet customer needs, including analyzing designs for manufacturability issues and collaborating with customers to resolve them.
• Foster teamwork and lead cross-functional teams including tooling, processing, and quality, to ensure projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
• Support Quality Assurance in conducting First Article Inspections (FAI) and reporting.
• Manage IQ/OQ/PQ validations for medical devices in collaboration with the Quality team.
• Occasionally design manufacturing aids such as fixtures, end-of-arm tooling, and automation systems using SolidWorks.
• Evaluate the moldability of customer products and tooling designs.
• Lead continuous improvement projects using lean tools and formal problem-solving techniques.
• Identify and execute projects to reduce costs and throughput time in manufacturing processes.
• Assist Operations in capacity planning and factory layout optimization.
• Maintain and set priorities for the tooling, processing, and quality departments for new projects and program qualifications.

Required Skills / Abilities:

• Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to foster teamwork and lead cross-functional teams effectively.
• Proficiency in project management, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Project and familiarity with Agile, SCRUM, and Kanban methodologies.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in managing vendor timelines and controlling costs.
• Proficiency in lean manufacturing techniques and tools.
• Excellent mechanical and technical skills.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Knowledge in injection molding part Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and mold design is highly beneficial.
• Ability to design and execute design of experiments is a plus.

Education / Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
• Preferred experience in injection molding and medical device manufacturing.
• Injection molding certifications or qualifications are preferred.
• Alternatively, 5 years of related work experience managing projects or customers.
