Arabella Advisors is Hiring a Compliance Associate Near Washington, DC

Compliance Associate, Partner Solutions Legal & Compliance (Hybrid in Durham, NC, Chicago, IL, or Washington, DC)
The Partner Solutions Legal & Compliance team provides technical expertise to the multiple 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit organizations Arabella manages that serve as fiscal sponsors, as well as the projects housed at these nonprofit organizations.
Essential Responsibilities
Compliance Operations (80%)
  • Support nonprofit operations including signatory processes, OFAC checks, template updates, and miscellaneous information requests
  • Support various nonprofit filings and insurance renewals by tracking deadlines, gathering data, completing and reviewing forms, and processing payments under the direction of compliance managers and associate directors
  • Maintain and update compliance and operations tools, resources, and trackers under the direction of compliance managers and associate directors
  • Contribute to department and firm-wide process improvement efforts focused on the development and implementation of more efficient processes, systems, and technology
  • Support knowledge management by assisting with our case system and elevating questions to our in-house attorneys and compliance experts, addressing questions from colleagues, writing process guides, crafting talking points, and conducting trainings
  • Complete compliance monitoring by reviewing documents and systems to evaluate whether staff are following internal policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, business, and funder-imposed requirements
Other Responsibilities
Compliance and Legal Team Support (20%)
  • Provide backup assistance to Legal & Compliance team members, including compliance managers, associate directors, and staff counsel
  • Provide backup assistance for preparation of materials for boards of directors’ meetings of the managed nonprofit organizations
  • Other ad-hoc special projects
To Be Successful in This Role, You’ll Need
  • 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong desire to learn about the operations of nonprofit organizations and about the laws and regulations that govern them; demonstrated interest in philanthropy, nonprofits, and foundation operations/management required
  • Demonstrated ability to produce thorough and independent research, and prioritize and present findings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong customer-service orientation
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to proactively problem-solve, identifying both problems and potential solutions in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple demands, projects, and deadlines
  • High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), database programs, and web-based communications tools
  • Excellent judgement, and a strong sense of personal accountability
Preferred
  • Familiarity and/or experience working within a fiscal sponsorship structure is a plus
  • An appreciation for efficient processes and a desire to improve them
  • Interest in contributing to team and project-level learning

Working with Us
While this position must be based in Durham, Chicago, or DC, please note that all Arabella Advisors’ offices have reopened, and we work in a hybrid environment.
We reopened our offices in Summer of 2022 and work with a hybrid workplace strategy to ensure continued flexibility for our staff, while deepening our strong culture rooted in collaboration and in-person interactions between colleagues. We expect that after their initial onboarding, all Arabellans will have the choice of two hybrid schedules. Our hybrid schedule options include Flex, with 1-2 days per week in the office, or Office-based, with 3 days per week in the office (or more if preferred) and the remaining days working at home/remotely. Total Rewards (compensation and benefits)
This is a full-time position. We offer a competitive and holistic total rewards package that includes salary, bonus, and benefits. Our compensation ranges are based on salary ranges for similar sized organizations in the professional services sector and adjusted for local labor market rates and differentiated by geography.
Annual Pay Ranges for This Position:
Durham: $52,000 - $58,000
Chicago: $55,000 - $55,000
DC: $57,000 - $64,000
All full-time staff are eligible for our generous benefits package on their first day of employment:
  • Health insurance- On average Arabella pays 86% of the medical premium, 80% of the dental premium, and 100% of the vision premium
  • Paid time off- 16 days’ vacation, 10 personal days, 11 company holidays (7 federal and 4 more from a list of inclusive cultural and religious holidays and your birthday), 20 hours volunteer leave, 8 weeks parental leave
  • 401(k) retirement plan- We offer a 4% employer match on a dollar-per-dollar basis, and there is no waiting or vesting period; all funds contributed by you and Arabella are yours to keep on day 1
