Job Summary:

The Lab Manager will oversee the daily operations of the laboratory within this chemical business. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of all lab activities, including research, development, and quality control. The Lab Manager will lead a team of scientists and technicians, manage lab resources, and ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow and utilization of resources.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain high standards of lab practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations and maintain a safe working environment.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of laboratory scientists and technicians.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the lab.

Research and Development:

  • Lead and coordinate research projects and experiments in line with company goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, marketing, and sales, to support product development and improvement.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in chemical research and incorporate relevant innovations into lab practices.

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Oversee the quality control testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of test results and maintain records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Investigate and resolve any quality issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage the lab budget, including equipment, supplies, and staffing needs.
  • Procure and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring all instruments are calibrated and in good working order.
  • Optimize the use of lab resources to achieve cost-efficiency without compromising quality.

Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure all lab activities comply with industry regulations and standards, such as ISO, GLP, and GMP.
  • Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits and inspections.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory practices, procedures, and equipment in the chemical industry.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and quality standards (e.g., ISO, GLP, GMP).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in laboratory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
