Job Summary:

The Director of Clinical Laboratory Operations is responsible for ensuring the accurate, precise, and timely performance of the Core Laboratory, Molecular, Microbiology and Specimen Management departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
• Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Serves as a backup for escalated issues in the absence of the Director of Anatomic Pathology.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Participate in strategic planning for laboratory services and future testing pipelines.
• Serve as a resource to establish necessary laboratory performance metrics to achieve and sustain outstanding quality and customer service.
• Direct department leadership for organized and prioritized work, mentor for leaders to write/conduct performance reviews, train/develop, and manage work performance.
• Communicate goals clearly to employees to ensure understanding and success in achieving them.
• Ensure adherence to CLIA and CAP regulatory requirements and good laboratory practices
• Identify and creatively solve complex, cross-functional operational issues that get in the way of successful outcomes.
• Coordinate, lead, mentor, and support process improvement within functional roles to drive cost savings, efficiency, and productivity.
• Coordinate and manage cross-functional priorities internally.
• Consult, as necessary, on development of standard operating procedures (SOP) required for the

performance of diagnostic testing. Draft, edit, review, and approve SOPs as required.

• Serve as a resource to ensure that the test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required and verifies, as appropriate, that procedures are accurate and precise.
• Serve as a resource to sales and marketing to ensure all product descriptions (electronic and paper) are correct and compliant with CLIA and CAP regulatory requirements.
• Serve as a resource in creation, validation, documentation, and approval of specimen pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical results.
• Prepare for, participate in, and perform inspections, as necessary, to maintain licensure and ensure quality service delivery.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities with successful follow-through and timely delivery.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; including the ability to easily convey concepts and priorities to peers, customers, and cross-functional teams.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to translate regulatory, business environment and technical understanding to action plans and create resolutions.

• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong computer literacy required.

Education and Experience:

Education / Certifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Medical Technology, or related field
• Current relevant certification

Experience / Abilities:

• At least 10 years of applicable work experience
• At least 5 years of relevant leadership experience

Travel and Hours:

• This position is full-time
• Hours and availability may flex to business needs
• Limited travel is required with this position (less than 10%)
