Job description
Arbor Youth Services, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter and other safe alternatives for homeless, runaway, and at-risk children and young adults. Arbor engages in youth outreach, offers family support and facilitates the development of independent living skills for youth while in shelter care.
Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the Shelter Coordinator, this position provides direct supervision and care of young adults while performing duties required for the daily operation of the emergency shelter. Primary duties include but are not limited to:
- Act as a mentor and role model, demonstrating the ability to understand and communicate with children and youth experiencing problems
- Provide attentive supervision of youth at all times
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all agency policies and procedures, state license requirements and other relevant agencies standards and expectations
- Coordinate and provide supervision on youth outings
- Maintain proper cleanliness and order throughout the home, including performing daily chores
- Teach residents appropriate independent living skills, including meal preparation, household cleaning, budgeting and laundering clothes
- Supervise the serving of meals, after-meal clean up, and the completion of resident chores
- Engage in monthly supervision with Program coordinator
- Attend required staff development trainings, maintain current First Aid and CPR certification, and maintain accurate documentation related to training attendance to meet agency requirements
- Accurately maintain client files and records, including medical files
Minimum Requirements:
- An ability to demonstrate strong leadership qualities and act as a role model for children and youth
- An ability to assess risk factors and effectively work with children/youth in crisis situations
- Knowledge of social and other issues affecting abused/neglected/runaway or homeless youths
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with social service agencies, parents and/or guardians
- Ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships with children and youth;
- Sensitivity to the needs of individuals and families in crisis;
- The capacity to view all persons positively and recognize their strengths;
- Positive regard and respect for service recipients;
- Ability to assess need for care
Education and Experience
- High school diploma required, college degree preferred
- Previous experience required with children/youth
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
Special Requirements
Individuals recommended for employment will be required to submit to relevant background checks

Pay: $16.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Night shift
- Overnight shift
- Weekends as needed
