SUMMARY

The Machine Operator Trainee (MOT) maintains equipment/department cleanliness and comply with all elements related to LEAN and 5S during initial employment period; progress into Operator Training Program as schedule designates; efficiently and safely operate equipment to meet production and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Perform general hot end cleaning and laborer tasks; use air hoses, rakes, shovels, and other tools to keep the equipment and machines clean.
• Take the on-coming job change equipment to the hot end; bring the off-going job change equipment to the mold shop.
• Successfully complete all elements of the Machine Operator Training Program when designated.
• Perform as a Relief Operator and/or Operator during/after successful training completion.
• Dump cullet and trash from the hot end.
• Man basement during colored glass production and when necessary during power failures or equipment breakdowns.
• Strip machines and cleans machines going out of production; prepare equipment on machines scheduled to come into production.
• Complete the corking, as needed.
• Drive Forklift, as scheduled, to empty cullet bins and transport equipment; complete forklift maintenance checklist and follow all Forklift Safety Rules and Guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Able to work with minimum supervision
• Basic mechanical skills
• Self-motivated

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Steady work history; preferably in an industrial or construction-like environment
• Able to successfully pass inbound mechanical aptitude test.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to work high temperatures
• Bending/crouching on a daily basis
• Able to lift or maneuver up to 75 lb. molds
• Use ladder to reach high areas
• Able to work overtime, often on short notice
