Responsibilities / Duties
- Participates in developing the plan for data and video activities, testing new tools and displays, certifying that products and personnel are ready for flight operations, and real-time operations of the ISS onboard data and video system components.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the various components of these systems, understand their operational constraints and limitations, and have good systems engineering skills.
- Responsible for managing the onboard data system configurations and the Ku-band downlink capability from the ISS to support payload science operations.
- Ensure that all science data and/or video is either routed to the ground or captured onboard for later playback and coordinates with ISS flight controllers at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) to help resolve any issues or anomalies that occur with these systems.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Entry level zero to one year of related work experience with an emphasis on systems engineering or real-time space operations.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Math or a closely related field; Military and other commensurate experience and leadership will be considered.
- Motivated self-starter.
- Ability to work with minimal guidance and oversight once clear objectives are established.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain successful work relationships with those contacted in the performance of this position.
- Ability to work in a team environment and to meet deadlines.
- This position requires an existing ISS Data Management Coordinator certification.
- Performs work in which the principles, theories and general body of knowledge of engineering are required.
- May be involved in the development cycle of an organization's products or in providing professional services to external customers.
- Role may include operations product development, operations process implementation, or operations execution functions.
- Duties requiring special certification may be required.
- US citizenship is required.
- Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, prolonged sitting while using the computer and the telephone and attending meetings, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. Ability to use a computer to input and retrieve information and data. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to travel as required by the Company.
