This job is located on the white sandy beaches of Andros Island, a Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Atlantic Undersea Test & Evaluation Center (AUTEC) is Arcata's newest partnership. AUTEC provides research, development, test and evaluation, engineering, analysis, and assessment, and fleet support capabilities for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive undersea weapon systems, and stewards existing and emerging technologies in support of undersea warfare for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport.

Principal Responsibilities of the title:

Responsible for picking up and receiving hazardous waste (HW) from satellite accumulation areas (SAA) into properly segregated areas in the hazardous waste storage facility (HWSF). This includes maintaining and updating a computer database of the HWSF inventory. Collects representative samples of wastes for laboratory analysis. Assists with hazardous waste shipments and corresponding paperwork. This includes dangerous goods shipping in accordance with International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, and the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Conducts and documents routine SAA inspections. Ensures waste containers are properly labeled and packaged according to EPA regulations. Operates and maintains an oil/water separator. Manages collection and shipment of the "Green Rag" (washable shop towel) program. Operates a fluorescent bulb crusher. Performs spill response and cleanup as necessary. Also responsible for assisting at HazMat (Hazardous Material Warehouse. May be required to perform on call duties.

Must be able to interface and communicate professionally with all levels of personnel in a multi-cultural team-oriented environment. Must be able to work independently since a majority of the duties are performed in the field with limited supervision. Must be able to perform other EHS-related duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in environmental science or related field preferred. Certified training in hazardous material and hazardous waste handling required.

Experience/Licenses:

4 or more years handling hazardous material and waste and conducting SAA inspections required. Valid driver's license required. Must be able to obtain a forklift operator license. 40-hour HAZWOPER Training required. DOT training required. Must be capable of wearing a respirator.

Special Knowledge/Skills Required:

Proficient computer skills in MS Excel, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, e-mail and base-wide database (IRIS). Must be capable of lifting/carrying up to 50lbs.

Minimum qualifications:

• Must be a US citizen
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• Valid US passport and Driver's license required.
• Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current Secret security clearance preferred
